Welcome to the home page of the new Tintern Steam Railway  website.

Over a year in the planning this exciting new railway is to be built at the old station Tintern, which lies deep in the heart of Wye Valley, Monmouthshire. Tintern is famous for outstanding scenery and of course  its 12th century "Cistercian" abbey. This was abandoned after the dissolution of the monastery in 1536 in the reign of King Henry  V111.

The old station Tintern is owned and managed by Monmouthshire County Council, countryside section, and was opened as a visitor centre in 1975. The station building has been restored and now serves hot meals, sandwiches and beverages. The old signal box is now used for displaying paintings by local artists. Picnic tables and play equipment along with walks attract a large number of visitors each year.

The new railway will be 12 1/4" inch gauge, steam hauled by  our new locomotive "Victoria". The carriages are totally enclosed for  all-year round use and will seat adults and children in comfort. The railway will be built during this winter and open for the 2008 season although it is hoped to run trains earlier for testing purposes. Please check this site for updates of our progress
